Tiger Wood’s workout routine is probably one of the most closely guarded secrets in the world. He never gives out any information about it himself publicly, and neither do many of his acquaintances. However, one person managed to track down information on the routine. I will give a quick summary of what was discovered:

Tiger is definitely one of the fittest golfers on the planet.

- Tiger apparently spends 4-5 hours a day five times a week in the gym, varying the goal of each session from strength training to improvements in cardiovascular performance.

- He usually starts with 30 minutes of some kind of cardiovascular warm-up exercise such as pedaling on a stationary bike. Then he’ll perform a 30-minute session of total-body stretching, focusing on the muscles of the legs and trunk.

- He has a personal trainer assisting him with physical therapy, manipulating his body to prepare the joints for the rigors of swinging a golf club as violently as Woods does. Everything from the kneecaps to the vertebrae are prepared for battle.

- Then he goes back to cardiovascular exercise. Woods uses the treadmill, stair stepper and stair climber that focuses on the upper body. It has been said that Woods loves to run about three to four miles and mostly on grass.

- Core strength exercises. These exercises are performed to strengthen the muscles that stabilize his body. Core training involves keeping the torso in place while taking his limbs through different movements. This workout helps to improve the muscles of the abdomen and back. These muscles are the key muscles needed for the twisting the body withstands during the golf swing. For example, Woods may sit on the medicine ball and perform dumbbell curl while trying to maintain his balance on the ball. He may also anchors long rubber bands to fixed positions and performs movements similar to the golf swing.

- Weight training. This is one of the most important parts of training. On high-intensity days, Tiger lifts 80 percent of his maximum weight doing exercises such as the bench press, the shoulder press and squats. Woods trains with weight machines, free weights, dumbbells and medicine balls. He will perform various exercises in movements and positions that mimic the golf swing. He works on his golf posture and grip strength by lifting dumbbells.

- Tiger Woods tells us that he doesn’t let any ego get in the way at the gym. Instead, opting for lighter weights with lower repetitions.

- Finally, Tiger stretches to cool down after his long work out.

Although it is interesting to find out what Tiger does to keep in shape, we need to remember that it all comes down to being in tune with your body and making sure you take care of it. With so much information available to us these days, it is possible to design any kind of workout you wish to suit your body, your goals and or/schedule. More than anything, it is important to remember, again, that consistency is the key in winning and reaching your goals. What Tiger Woods does in his workout you can too!
